1. Your Thursday or any other USATT or other "ratings" are not effected. However see bonus awards below that can be used on following Thursday for playing in Saturday Team League. This is a team league with each player playing one singles and one doubles. However players are awarded points individually for winning each game (match) and "contest". (Players are thus rewarded individually for teamwork). You also get a point each for winning each game in lost matches
2. 2 person teams are formed on a dynamic weekly assignment basis at 2.30 PM each Saturday. Highest rated player paired with lowest, next highest player with next lowest and so on. Teams will be grouped in Divisions of 4 or 3 teams. Each team will play other 4 or 3 teams. Divisions will be called Division X, Division Y etc just like Thursday with each division playing on the same 2 tables like Thursday.
3. A "contest" between 2 teams will be one doubles and two singles (High Rated players of each team play each other and low rated players of each team play each other). Sample Match sheets blank & sample filled out can be viewed by clicking links Blank & Sample
4. Each team initially plays 3 other teams or less (first) . These 4 teams share the same two tables all thru the afternoon. If done, your team can play against more teams by mutual agreement, subject to finishing doubles first (see Item 11 below). Upon completion teams are free to play any team they have not played to pick up additional points. You can play as many teams as you want as long as doubles are completed first
5. All doubles between all 4 teams (6 matches) must be completed first before starting any singles. If not, your singles results will be discarded & not accepted for point totals for the day or year
6. Doubles will be standard 3 games out of 5 or can be by mutual agreement 2 games out of 3
7. Singles can be professional style 4 games out of 7 or standard 3 games out of 5, or 2 games out of 3 by mutual agreement. If no mutual agreement can be reached, it would be standard 3 games out of 5
8. Every game & every match counts and you face severe penalties for defaulting. Each player gets 1 point for each game won (singles or doubles) and one more point for each contest (not match) won 2-1 (The team that win 2 out of 3 matches win that "contest") or two points more if a contest is won 3-0 . (Players are thus rewarded individually for teamwork) and it is in the best interests of the higher rated player to help and coach his/her lower rated player to win his/her singles as well. . Players get no points for defaulted win but are penalized severely with minus four points for a defaulted loss The player with most points on given afternoon is Player of the Day . The points for each player are also added towards Team League Player of the year.
9. Unless all 4 players involved are within 250 rating points of each other (latest Thursday rating or good faith estimate) , higher rated player of a given team MUSTl play the higher rated player of the other team and lower rated players of each team MUST play against each other . Otherwise , the high player and low player nominated for each contest can be different by team choice in a secret nomination process. (Two teams submit at same time in writing and cannot be changed once nominated) Each team secretly nominates their High & Low player for a given contest. If not nominated the higher rated player will be High and Low rated Low by default . The purpose of this option is to allow teams to switch players strategically based on styles and past singles records (if all four players have ratings very close but very different playing styles) when all 4 players have close ratings, keeping also in mind your opponent may pull the same secret switcharoo anticipating your switch, thus your negating your switch etc. Once you nominate your High & Lows , for a give contest , you cannot change your mind again until your next contest. So it is suggested that both teams write down their High & Low players on different piece of paper and submit to opponent at the same time.
10. Players must be physically at the club before 2.30 PM . It is ok to be a little , as long as you have called the League Phone 704-336-2008 and left a message before 2 PM . No texting (SMS) or email as this is a landline analog phone.
11. A team can opt to play more than 3 other teams, as long as they have finished initial 3 teams without defaults. All the matches against 3 initial teams must be completed first without defaults. Again, doubles must first be completed between any two teams, if not the singles results of that contest will be discarded. You can earn more points for a given evening and towards yearly total , by playing against more than 3 teams. Thus you can turn all your casual play & training on Saturdays into points with some careful planning.
12. Keep in mind that ,in doubles a team can choose to receive as well as serve which is highly important strategic decision. Also if there a deciding final game (3rd game in a 2 out of 3 match, 5th game in a 3 out of 5 match or 7th game in a 4 out of 7 match etc) , the receiver (only) switches when either team reaches 5 points first in addition to players switching ends.
Bonus
Award 1
Players who play on a given Saturday will have any of their prior existing Thursday league move down nullified ( for any following Thursday they will play next ) except for defaulters and phone-call-in violators .........your rating will still of course dictate which division you will go into on Thursday as usual ...........subject to requirement that you finish all your Saturday matches you started
Bonus
Award 2
Conversely, the Saturday's best player based on
total points will get to play one division higher on the following
Thursday (ONLY…..if they show up)
The
purpose of these bonus awards is to
encourage players to play more often competitively to increase their
consistency, endurance etc for tournament play or just more healthy exercise.
Four tables are reserved for Saturday open play. However
if everyone
chooses to play in team league as it usually seems to happen & you cannot find anyone to practice / train with, that
is not something in League Admins' control and it is not the admins' job to
force players not to play in the league for the purpose of finding you practice
bitches.. There
will be no Saturday Team League when CTTC holds USATT (national) tournaments on
Saturdays (players will be notified well in advance...check CTTC
calendar (See top tab) )
